This thesis presents the research carried out to improve the manufacturing process of sandpaper rolls based on the automation of the unwinding and transportation of cloth. The manufacture machine for sandpaper rolls consists of a main motorized drive called unwinder and also five rollers used in order to transport the cloth. The main objective consists in regulating the tension forcé of the sandpaper cloth and its linear travel speed; and to achieve this, it has been used as a method the collecting of technical data from the application mathematical modeling and the development of the regulation algorithm. With the information collected, it was analyzed and calculate the motor electric power of each motorized drive; and from that, it was selected the components required for implementation. In the implementation, it were used six gearmotors with three-phase asynchronous motors and incremental encoders, controlled by six variable frequency drive and a main PLC; the regulation algorithm was written in the PLC, and then the machine was empty tested with raw material; validating in this way that it is possible the regulation of the tension force of the unwinder in order to improve a sandpaper roll manufacturing machine.
