The analysis of the present study is based on the concept of the application of low density explosives in blasting in surface mining, which is not a new concept, since the last decade, it has already been working with chemically gasified emulsions in order to have explosive mixtures with lower density, this looking for better and greater benefits, mainly because they are more sensitive products with better distribution of energy in the explosive column, as well as better detonation speed development. However, with this process only the density of the maximum explosive mixture has been reduced to 1.12 (gr / cc) and there are persistence of some problems, such as the damage caused to the rock mass and the presence of nitrous gases. With this baseline is that Mexbde emerges as an alternative, which is an explosive mixture whose components do not use the anfo, which manages to reach densities in a range of 0.5 to 1.10 (gr / cc), which allows it to be applied in all types of blasting in surface mining, with the additional solution of the aforementioned problems. In this study, the implementation of this product will be analyzed as an alternative to optimize the blasting results and the economic benefits that it would represent, in one of the main Open pit mines in the country. The results lead us to the conclusion that, with this product, it is possible to obtain optimum blasting and also that, with its use, substantial cost savings can be achieved. In the course of this investigation through the development of the tests, it has been possible to identify that, in control blasting, it has not been possible to comply with demonstrating the validity of the total variables. Indeed, there are excellent results in terms of eliminating the generation of nitrous gases and taking care of the rock mass and obtaining a homogeneous fragmentation, but the saving is not as significant as in the production blasting. Finally, analyzing the results, this study provides evidence that Mexbde is effectively an excellent alternative to optimize blasting in surface mining and that it can partially or totally replace conventional explosives.
