Currently the rural areas of our country have covered hydropower service in a range of 95% and they are expected to cover 100% in the coming years. Likewise, small industrial sectors are limited by the high cost of electricity. Since Peru is a territory with high hydropower potential, it is expected that new projects will continue to be built in the various regions as a clean alternative to thermal and nuclear power plants. Thus, this research aims to contribute to the hydraulic design of hydropower plants, specifically the analysis of the penstock and other components that interact with it. The main objective of this research is the evaluation of the various methods of water hammer analysis, establishing its scope and limitations for the design of a penstock, surge tank, shaft surge, valves, and turbines, among others. This research is aimed at students, researchers and engineering designers as a guide for the development of hydropower projects.
