The naval metalworking industry, specialized in maintenance of ships in naval steel, is one of the sectors of the industry that require human resources trained in project management. In the shipyards each ship is considered as a project, therefore the project team must be qualified to effectively manage all the activities requested by the client. In this professional sufficiency project, improvements are developed in the management of maintenance projects for fishing vessels in shipyards based on the guide to the project management body of knowledge (PMBOK Guide) sixth edition. The first improvement is carried out in the planning process using a quantitative analysis of the variability of the durations of the project activities through a Monte Carlo simulation; as a result, the risks are incorporated into the project schedule. The second improvement is carried out in the monitoring and control process using earned value and earned schedule techniques to determine the status of projects, consequently decision-making is easier for project managers. Finally, the results obtained are analyzed to prove if the improvements developed solve the limitations in the maintenance projects for fishing vessels in shipyards.
