This thesis is about of the relationship between poverty and public investment in sanitation in the Ayacucho region. The general objective of the study is to determine the relationship between public investment in sanitation projects and the reduction of poverty in the Ayacucho region in the 2007-2013 period. Two specific hypotheses were not raised, one that relates the amount of investment in sanitation infrastructure to poverty and the other that relates the benefited population by sanitation projects to poverty in the districts of the Ayacucho region. The results of the evaluation through the econometric model make it possible to affirm that poverty is influenced so much by public investment in sanitation, as well as by the number of beneficiaries in water and sanitation projects, considering the information of each districts of the Ayacucho region. The data used for the variable public investment in sanitation projects have been obtained from the website of the Ministry of Economy and Finance, during the period 2007 - 2012 at the level of the 110 districts of the Ayacucho region. On the other hand, the data for the poverty variable are taken from the map of the Population and Housing Census of 2007 and the 2013 poverty map of the National Institute of Statistics and Information Technology; However, the measurement of poverty has been made through the monetary approach, which determines as poor a person who has incomes below the poverty line but could still be deprived of some basic need. It is proposed that in future studies work with poverty data measured under approaches that take into account access to basic services or human capabilities. It is also important to mention that the data on the variable public investment in sanitation projects have been taken up to the year 2012, because the positive effects of the investment are not immediate.
