The Santa Eulalia River is one of the main tributaries of the Rimac River in the upper area of the Rimac basin and where the effect of heavy metals on its ecosystem as a result of domestic, industrial, agricultural and agricultural activities is unknown. Mining Next to its route, there is the district of Callahuanca where its inhabitants mostly dedicated to agriculture, use their waters for crop irrigation, constituting an activity of high social and economic importance for the population of this area. In this sense, the present research work aimed to determine the impact that the waters of the Santa Eulalia river have as a source of irrigation in the ecosystems of the upper area of the Rimac basin, using ecotoxicological tools. To this end, the methodology of ecological risk assessment was applied due to the presence of heavy metals in the waters of the Santa Eulalia River, used as an irrigation source for the crops of the Callahuanca district during the periods of flood and dry season. The expected exposure concentration (EEC) was determined by environmental monitoring and the concentration that does not cause effects on organisms (NEC) through a bioassay in which the test organism was Lactuca sativa L. Ecological risk (RQ ) was obtained from the relationship between the EEC and the NEC (RQ = EEC / NEC). To complement this study, a biological and a soil quality monitoring was carried out. The results obtained show a stimulation of the growth in the radicle and inhibition in the hypocotyl of the species Lactuca sativa L. due to river waters, indicating the presence of the Hormesis effect. It was determined that the ecological risk (RQ) for arsenic (metal that presented the concentration closest to the environmental quality standards, being exceeded at one of the sampling points) in the periods of flooding and drainage was equal to one, and therefore the existence of a MEDIUM ecological risk for the ecosystem of the district of Callahuanca was established, implying redefining the EEC with a greater number of species that allows to show the effect of the water of the Santa Eulalia river in a more dimensioned way to the structure of the ecosystem. Likewise, the biological monitoring showed that there is no risk for metals in the consumption of cherimoya, due to its high bioconcentration factor, and the soil quality monitoring indicated that the sampled area does not show metal contamination, when complying with the standards of environmental regulations.
