In this thesis, medium to high strength concrete was investigated by varying the fineness modulus of sand with Type I cement”, to observe in the range of fineness modulus of the fine aggregate under study, if the trend is linear or if an inflection point is produced, which would obtain the value of the fine aggregate fineness modulus, in which the concrete would reach its maximum strength. To achieve this objective, 3 fineness modules of the fine aggregate of 2.8, 3.0 and 3.33 were taken, and the fineness modulus of the coarse aggregate was set as a constant value (MF = 7.39). For the concrete design where only the coarse aggregate was taken constant and with 3 a / c ratios equal to 0.40, 045 and 0.50, for each fine aggregate fineness module, resulting in 9 mixing designs. The aggregates were obtained from 3 different quarries, the “La Gloria” quarry was used for the coarse aggregate and the “Trapiche” quarry and “La Molina-Musa” quarry were used for the fine aggregates. The tests were carried out in the FIC-UNI Materials Testing Laboratory. The tests of the aggregates were carried out applying what is indicated in the NTP 400.037 standard, obtaining the physical, mechanical properties of the aggregates. Tests were made for concrete in a fresh and resistant state, finally finding that it is a normal concrete. For the tests of the global compacted unit weight, in which for each fineness module of the fine aggregate a combination variation of aggregates AF / AG = 46/50, 48/52, 50/50, 52/48, 54/ 46, with which the concrete was designed to be tested at 7 days, with which result the best combination of aggregates for each fineness module was determined. With the results obtained from the tests of the compressive strength of concrete at 28 days, a graph of resistance vs. fine modulus of fine aggregate was obtained, where it was observed that the compressive strength is increased with modulus of fineness of aggregate fine in the range of 2.8 to 3.0 and decreases with fine aggregate modulus values in the range of 3.0 to 3.33 producing a turning point for the fine aggregate fineness modulus with a value of 3.0. The results conclude that the maximum compressive strength of concrete is achieved for a fine aggregate modulus 3.0 for a fine aggregate modulus 7.39.
