In Peru and the world the stiffness irregularity presence in buildings has caused bad seismic behavior against the earthquakes of the XXI century, so it is very significant to avoid having this type of irregularity in the buildings or in case its presence can’t be avoided, supplying the building with an adequate seismic design to cover the minimum functionality requirements after the earthquake. As the E.030 code changed in 2018, the way in which it is determined whether or not a structure presents stiffness irregularity changed. Due to this it is possible that buildings that were designed before the update of the standard and had irregularity of rigidity would not have had it if they were designed with the current code. The objective of this thesis is to determine if the studied building, which had stiffness irregularity with the E.030 – 2016 standard, continue presenting stiffness irregularity when it is analyzed with the E.030 - 2018 standard. Not only that, but also to determine how the presence or absence of the stiffness irregularity would influence both the building structural design and the building seismic performance. In addition, it’s desired to give a greater understanding about the structural performance of buildings that show stiffness irregularity. In order to determine the influence of the stiffness irregularity in the buildings, a 7-story building with reinforced concrete walls was modeled in the Etabs 2016 software. After modeling, it was analyzed and it was determined the existence of irregularities according to tables N°8 and N°9 of codes E.030 - 2016 and E.030 - 2018.The result was that the studied building had stiffness irregularity according to the E.030 -2016, but it didn’t present any irregularity when it was analyzed with the E.030 - 2018 code. Therefore, this variation meant that the seismic design strengths for the building according to the E.030 - 2016 standard are 50% higher in the X direction and 48% higher in the Y direction with respect to the building design seismic forces as analyzed with the E.030 -2018 code. After analyzing, the structural design of all the structural elements for both analysis results was carried out. Therefore, there was obtained more structural reinforcement for the beams and walls of the E.030 - 2016 analysis case. In the case of the columns, the requirements were the same because the building structural system was walls (R = 6) in both analysis cases E.030 – 2016 and E.030-2018. Finally, it was carried out the nonlinear static analysis in both cases. As a result, the building designed with the E.030 – 2018 code performed seismically better than the case of design with E.030 – 2016 code. In other words, the building that qualified as regular according to this code presents a better seismic performance than if it were qualified as irregular and its seismic design forces had to be amplified.
