In the present research, seismic amplification coefficients have been obtained for damping of 2%, 5% and 10% for non probability exceedance of 50% and 84.1%, with the purpose of finding modification factors that when applied to the spectrum of 5% spectra for 10% and 2% damping can be built; for which an analysis of the seismic records of medium and large magnitude was performed, giving relevance to those with which the spectrum of the seismic resistant design E030 standard was built. Based on the shape of the dynamic amplification factor and spectral ratios, three modification factors are proposed, one for the platform zone, where the spectrum is more sensitive to the variation of the damping, and two others for the fall zone of the curve. In the platform zone there are large amplifications and reductions for the spectrum of acceleration with damping of 2% and 10% respectively when these are compared with the 5% spectrum. Besides, using curve fitting tools to the analyzed data a new expression for the seismic amplification coefficient is proposed for the first region of the fall zone of the curve. Another important point that results of the analysis of the displacement spectrums is the modification of the period value that defines the zone of constant displacements “TL”. The acceleration spectrum for damping of 2% was used for the design of industrial steel structures such as: warehouse without bridge crane, warehouse with bridge crane and storage silo and the results were compared with the design with the spectrum of the E030 standard corresponding to a 5% damping. It has been observed that the change of the spectrum mainly affects to the structural elements with greater stiffness and the extreme columns of the frames. The deformations and forces are increased by the same percentage with which the spectrum is amplified when going from one with damping of 5% to another with 2%. Besides, the seismic force reaches higher priority in the design combinations when going from a light structure to a heavier one.
