A pilot scale prototype was constructed and the efficiency of removal of BOD5 and fecal coliforms was evaluated over a period of 95 days. The DHS reactor comprised 4 modules with sponge support means of different sizes arranged in two columns of 2 modules each. The sponge sizes were 4cm, 2.5cm, 3cm and 5cm cube edge for modules 1, 2, 3 and 4 respectively. The experimental DHS system was designed for a flow rate of 97.5 L / day with a retention time of 1.5h. During the experimental part the measurement of different physical and microbiological parameters was performed. Among the physical parameters, turbidity, Ph, conductivity, Dissolved Oxygen and Ambient temperature were analyzed; In addition, the parameters of Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD5) and fecal coliforms were analyzed. The results obtained from this DHS system was an aerobic system in which no bad odors were generated during the treatment. A DHS 1 reactor effluent with characteristics of a Ph of 7.4 ± 0.31, turbidity of 7.43 ± 10.36 UNT, conductivity of 700.64 ± 61.31 uS / cm, OD of 6.6 ± 0.77 mg / l, Biochemical Oxygen Demand of 22.92 ± was obtained 12.57 mg / L and removal of faecal coliforms of 3.00 E + 04 ± 3.64 E + 04. In the case of the DHS 2 reactor effluent its characteristics of a Ph of 7.2 ± 0.23, turbidity of 3.23 ± 1.94 UNT, conductivity of 686.22 ± 49.91 uS / cm, OD of 5.67 ± 0.72 mg / l, Biochemical Oxygen Demand of 17.58 ± 11.61 mg / L and fecal coliform removal of 7.53 E + 04 ± 9.52 E + 4.
