Currently, the detergent industry in Peru imports and consumes an approximate amount of 34287 MT of linear alkyl benzene (LAB), which implies a foreign exchange of approximately 42,638 MMUS$. At the same time, Talara Refinery has a kerosene cut surplus of approximately 4092.03 MB/year with its current configuration, due to the D.S. N° 045-2009-EM prohibits the directly selling of this cut in the national market. In addition, the Talara Refinery Modernization Project has increased its kerosene cut at approximately 4856.46 MB/year. Given these circumstances, the present project evaluates from the technical, environmental and economic point of view the application of a technology that allows the change of linear paraffins from C10 to C13 contained in the kerosene cut to linear alkyl benzene, used in the formulation of detergents, thus giving solution to the two problems that are currently on the market, which are the LAB production deficit in the country and the surplus kerosene cut of the New Talara Refinery. From the technical evaluation it is obtained that the UOP / Detal process is the best process to be chosen, given the advantages it presents over the other two existing technologies in the market. Likewise, based on the Market Study carried out for this project, it is obtained that the production capacity of the Linear Alkyl Benzene Production Plant using the UOP/Detal process would be 120000 MT/year. In addition, this process will allow obtaining the LAB in specification, complying with the characteristics required for the LAB by the detergent industry in Peru. From the environmental evaluation it is obtained that the Linear Alkyl Benzene Production complies with all the environmental specifications given in the current legal regulatory framework. From the economic evaluation, it is obtained that the implementation of the Linear Alkyl Benzene Production Plant using the UOP / Detal technology, for a production capacity of 120000 MT/year, using the surplus kerosene cut of the New Talara Refinery implies a investment of 148.34 MM $, giving as economic indicators a NPV of 29.58 MMUS$, an IRR of 16.43% and a PAY OUT of 7 years and 11 months, which indicate that the project is profitable from the economic point of view.
