The present work emerges as a low-cost alternative to indoor location solutions used by automatic guided vehicles for the automated transport of merchand1se in industrial environments. A localization system based on the detection of square reference markers and the subsequent position estimation based on the knowledge of the four vertices of each marker is proposed. The system can communicate with programmable logic controllers through the TCP protocol in order to be integrated into industrial automation processes. For this purpose, the OpenCV artificial vision library and the /\rUco library were used. In addition, an asynchronous image acquisition method that uses concurrent computing techniques and allows a significant increase in processing speed ar.d a drastic reduction in system latency is proposed. The conditions to ensure a robust detection and free of pos1tion amb19 uity errors are analyzed.
