This thesis deals with the design of a multivariable nonlinear controller by means of the sliding mode control strategy, applied to an angular robotic manipulator with three degrees of freedom; which consists of a rotating base and two arms or links, whose angular positions are subject to control through three servomotors. Sliding mode control consists in the use of switching or discontinuous control actions, with one or more sliding surfaces, where once the surface is reached, the system enters in sliding mode and has characteristics of invariability in terms of. external uncertainties and disturbances, making the trajectories of the robot arm remain on the sliding surface. The design of the process controller was based on dynamic modeling using the Lagrange formulation, which is based on energy considerations. In the same way the modeling of the actuators (DC motors) has been carried out, which transform the electrical energy into mechanical energy to generate movement. The controller has been subjected to different virtual tests using the specialized software Matlab. For the contrast of the results obtained by the controller by sliding mode, a conventional controller such as the PID has been additionally taken. In this way, the hypothesis put forward was verified.
