Wharfs normally follow a traditional arrangement of frames, which are formed by piles, header and longitudinal beams. This system allows a relatively easy execution, but presents serious problems when the structure is located in shores where the marine abrasion is very aggressive. It shows the particular case of the wharf of Hydrography and Navigation Directorate of Peruvian Navy, which presents its bridge collapsed due to this factor. Searching for solutions to reduce these negative effects, it is proposed the use of non-conventional systems in bridge construction of that wharf, which use braces or cables to support the concrete board, avoiding the necessity to drive piles in the whole central area of the pier. For this purpose, two alternatives are evaluated as possibility, the first one is a cable-stayed superstructure and the second is an option Network. Once the optimum non-conventional structure has been decided, a comparative analysis is made in order to determinate the advantages of the best option with respect to the traditional configuration used in wharfs, consisting of piles continuously driven along the bridge.
