The main purpose of this thesis focus on the simulation of the roasting process in Cajamarquilla zinc refinery, located in the east of Lima. In this process are received approximately 60 000 wet metric tonnes of zinc concentrate per month, from different mining units in the south and center of the country. The chapter I described the currently simulation of the feed mixture, that get into to the Fluidized bed roaster. It is important to mention that it just controls the law of Zinc needed to keep the budgeted goal of 330 000 t of refined zinc in the year; however it does not take direct control of the end of each month focused on stocks, which creates uncertainty in the final concentrate inventories of stock for Metallurgical Balance refinery. In addition, there is no simulator that provides the behavior of the main roaster’s variables with corresponds to a predetermined mixture of zinc concentrate and zinc concentrate pre-treated from the area of hydrometallurgy. For those reasons we study and proposed operating parameters, in order to ensure optimal conditions for the development of roasting process. On the other hand, chapter II compiles the theory and the technical information needed to have a solid base in the development of the simulator. In the chapters III y IV, there is our approach about the optimization of the mixture that makes a homogeneous projection of the mixture throughout the month, taking into account the reception of uniform concentrates and their metal content. This, accompanied by a tracking control stock of concentrates until month's end through inventories with net weight of balance, allows a stable mixture and process; as well as a reliable inventory of concentrates to calculate the Percent Recovery which it is the indicator of the performance of Cajamarquilla refinery production. From the determination of the mixture is proposed a thermodynamic simulator of roasting process where certain important considerations are taken such as: chemical and mineralogical analysis concentrates and hydrometallurgical process studies for characterization of the mixture, assays thermal decomposition of sulphates, phase diagrams and Gibbs free energy for the formulation of the basic reactions of roasting, the specific enthalpies for the amount of heat generated or absorbed for each Chemical reaction and therefore the operating temperature of the toaster. Finally, the knowledge and instructions necessaries are shared to the operating personal in the plant as mentioned in chapter V based on the simulator developed, in order to achieve operational stability minimizing deviations or anomalies that occur and consequently develop production plans and projections Refinery aligned to the mission and vision of the business.
