In the present thesis a design and calculation procedure is established for a cantilevered metal structure attached to the entrance of the road tunnel, which is used to provide support to cable trays and traffic management equipment, in this way it is achieved that these elements are implemented in a safe way and get the maximum use of the available space in the front of the road tunnel. In the first place, the preliminary design of the cantilevered metal structure is cietermined, which is made up of components that provide support for cable trays and traffic management equipment, as well as an access ladder and upper platform; then dispensing with components that do not provide significant resistance and increasing the distance between the support components, it reduces the amount of raw material and labor. Next, modeling and analysis by the finite element method (FEM) using the SAP2000, determine the metal profiles that satisfy the conditions of dead load, live load, environmental loads and their combinations. Finally, through the structural design criteria based on the AISC specifications, we proceed with the design of the metallic connections that can be bolted and / or welded. The implementation of a cantilevered metal structure at the entrance of a road tunnel is justified when there is not enough space for the installation of other conventional metal structures. The cost per unit weight of the cantilevered metal structure is US $ 3.1 / Kg which represents an adequate price, considering that raw material, labor, expenses, and transportation tü work are included.
