The El Alizar project is located in the Cu-Au porphyry belt of northern Peru, specifically 19 km SW of the city of Huamachuco, in the province of Sánchez Carrión, La Libertad. The geological framework of the project is inscribed in the basin of the Western Cordillera of sedimentary sequences of the Cretaceous (Goyllarisquizga Group) that were subjected to multiple tectonic events that allowed the ascent of magmatic fluids generating several deposits (eg Lagunas Norte, Shahuindo, La Arena, La Virgen, El Toro). This thesis is based on the work carried out (surface mapping, geochemical sampling and geological logging) by different companies that surveyed the area. In the analysis of this information, mineralogical characteristics were found that classify it as an Au-rich porphyry Cu deposit (average grade 0.25 g/T Au), i.e., the highest mineralization is found in A (4-5%) and B (4-6%) veins type in intrusions of dacitic composition within the potassium alteration with assemblage of secondary biotite, plagioclase, potassium feldspar and magnetite (5-7%). Areas with high Au values were correlated with veins A and B for macroscopic, microscopic descriptions and electronic scanning microscopy (SEM) analysis. The results obtained by these studies are able to clarify that the Au is associated with Cu-Fe sulfides (pyrite, chalcopyrite) and is able to explain, under the model of oxidation-reduction of magnetite conditions in a magmatic fluid that is initially Au unsaturated and confirm that the chemical composition of the magmatic fluid plays an important role in the precipitation of the Au in these Au-rich porphyry Cu deposits. Additionally, these preliminary results are helpful for future geometallurgical processes that can be used for processing and refining of gold and copper.
