The present shows the efficiency of an anaerobic reactor, for the removal of the chemical oxygen demand (COD) in the effluents generated in the process of meat products of the company Esmeralda CORP SAC. The effluents must have a previous physical and chemical treatment, that it removes the thick material, fats and suspended material in these waters so as not to generate obstruction in the power lines of the reactor. Research starts by inoculating 4 cubic meters of ruminal fluid, having a flow rate of 0.83 liters per second, the pre-treated effluents enter the mixing tank to be driven by a 3.4 HP electric pump to the anaerobic reactors, working in parallel with a flow rate of 0.415 l / s and an ascent speed of 0.24 m / hour. At the bottom it has a piping system to distribute the effluents throughout the reactor area having a retention time of 30 hours, in the upper part anaerobic reactors have a collection channel that takes the water to the distribution tank that serves as outlet and recirculation of effluents. After the first 6 months, the reactors worked with a new bacterial load, for which the reactors are completely empty, and we enter about 20 m3 each of the anaerobic sludge reactors from a biodigester. Once the anaerobic sludge was inoculated, we haf in 6 days results that were constant during the research thesis, having an average BOD reduction during the six months of analysis, from 1100mg/l to 273mg/l, with an average efficiency of 74%, and in the reduction of COD from 2000mg/l to 440mg/l with an avergare efficiency of 76% and there was also the generation of biogas. The thesis showed that the anaerobic reactor is efficient to reduce the chemical oxygen demand of effluents from the slaughtering industry, with a COD removal efficiency of 74%. In addition to treating the waters, generated byproducts of biogas and biosolids. Biogas can be used in the boiler system, and the biosolid as agricultural soil improver. We must also mention that according to the limitations of existing structures and lack of Budget the anaerobic reactor did not work as an anaerobic reactor flow upward, so the thesis should be named: “EFFICIENCY OF AN ANAEROBIC TOWER FOR THE REMOVAL OF COD IN EFFLUENT FROM THE SLAUGHTERING INDUSTRY”.
