Heap leach pads are part of the mining practice in Peru, where the design and construction have been a continuous challenge for geotechnical engineering. The slope stability analysis as a main aspect of geotechnical design, considers specific features of the foundation a rea and the structure analyzed, being usual to perform this analysis in static and seismic conditions. Due to high seismic activity in Peru, the seismic slope stability analysis becomes the most important evaluation in consequence it should be carrying out in a rigorous way. The seismic slope stability analyses of heap leach pads is performed through the calculation of factors of safety, which are qualitative indices but does not represent directly seismic response or deformation of the structure. However, there are methods that enable to calculate seismic induced displacements both simplified and rigorous. This research includes the behavior evaluation of the main materia Is involved into the design, the site seismicity and the seismic induced maximum allowed displacements. lt is demonstrated that the seismic design of heap leach pads through the criterion of displacements calculation is the most suitable. In order to perform the analyses of the seismic induced permanent displacements, the research reviews severa! simplified methods, and then three of them are applied in current heap leach pad projects in Peru. Those methods are: Makdisi &Seed (1977), Bray & Travasarou (2007) and Newmark (1965) modified by Houston et al. (1987).
