The present research focuses on the places of greatest concentration of the population most vulnerable to the toxic effect of lead with blood in the city of Cerro de Pasco due to its presence in the soil of the districts of Chaupimarca, Yanacancha and Simón Bolívar, province of Pasco, department of Pasco. The geographical area where Cerro de Pasco city is located is known for its mineralization, a place where people have settled for decades. Historical information points that during the colonial and Republican periods, settlers came from many areas and in certain periods seventeen commercial representative agents from different countries lived in Cerro de Pasco city, known as the Opulent City, the actual mining capital of Peru. This study identifies local residents of Paragsha, Ayapoto and Chaupimarca areas; where vulnerable populations, such as fertile women and children are victims of the lead contaminated soil with the consequence of affecting their health by contaminating their blood. Thirty two soil samples and 21 environmental samples were obtained with values greater than 1,200 ppm lead. The highest concentration was found in a dirt road near waste dumps in Excelsior with a value of 20,000 ppm lead. A group of epidemiologists and statisticians from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) of the United States helped evaluating the blood and urine samples from a group of children within the age range of 1 to 12 years old and women with the age range between 15 and 45 years old. The results of the lead analyses in the blood and urine samples show a high prevalence of heavy metals intoxication. It was determined that 53.3% of the children and 9.4% of the fertile women had elevated lead levels in the blood (>10 μgPb/dL). The following research is applicable, evaluative and not experimental. Spreadsheets for processing data were used for data collection and personalized interviews. As a hypothesis, we point that the lead soil contamination has significantly influences the blood of the vulnerable population in the city of Cerro de Pasco. What was mentioned above is confirmed with the results obtained, the soil analyses and the vulnerable population. We conclude with the identification of the towns where the higher concentrations of fertile women and children exposed to the soil with the presence of lead and recommendations are being made to mitigate this situation.
