The mining industry is undoubtedly one of the highest risk activities done by man. Statistics show that from 2000 through 2014, the average fatalities per month was 58. As Safety and personnel Health has a main importance, it was necessary to implement a model of Management for Occupational Safety and Health System that achieves to reduce or eliminate the number of accidents in the mining industries. In 2003, Volcan Cia Minera SAA, decided to make an Implementation of a Safety, Health Environment and Quality System (SSOMAC). For nine years, the results had not been favorable; accidents, frequency and severity rates continued elevated. In 2012, the organization was raised an “Improving Safety Management System“ to minimize accidents in Volcan Cía Minera SAA - Carahuacra Unit.“ Baseline assessment was conducted to identify the current state of security management in the unit, concluding that the Mining Unit is located at Level 2: dependent phase, where the supervisor is responsible for security, therefore, new management tools were implemented: Audits of safe behavior (ACS) is a management tool focused on safe behavior and risk behavior of our employees, it is made in the work area with the company of a coach, with the aim of increasing safe behavior and decrease risk behaviors. The safety package, is a management tool that was designated to give to the supervision at the beginning of each month the following tools: Audits of safe behavior, incident reporting, inspections, OPT, talks and training, assigned according to the degree of responsibility. As a consequence, the main purpses of this thesis are: a. To improve security management system to minimize accidents. b. To achieve to minimize safety indicators: frequency, Accident and Severity rates to the best global standard. Finally, as part of the cycle of continuous improvement, to implement a culture of world-class security. Keywords: system, security and accidents.
