Fur seals, Arctocephalus Australis, in Peru, benefit from an environment with high productivity originated in the Humboldt Current System. Understanding the foraging behaviour of these marine mammals allow us to monitor environmental conditions because the animals develop their strategies based on their adaptation to the environment. However, since this takes place under the sea, it can not be analyzed directly. Thus, using data loggers placed on the head and back of the animal, acceleration measures in three axes and dives data can be obtained. Prey capture attempts can be identified in the acceleration signals by spectral analysis based on the continuous wavelet transform. Subsequently, the dive success (at least one prey capture attempt) is modelled based on dive profiles. The logistic model obtained shows that higher values, mainly, of the descent and ascent rate suggest a significant increase in the belief of dive success. Additionally, the estimated average energy by the overall dynamic body acceleration index (ODBA) differs significantly between the dives with possible prey capture attempts and those that do not have. This study shows that it is possible to identify the likely foraging success based on the dive profile. Keywords: Prey capture, Acceleration, Wavelets, Logistic Regression, ODBA, Fur Seal.
