The study area extends 60 x 15 km from the towns of Huayo at the north, and Challas at the south, within the Eastern Cordillera, in La Libertad region. Geological-structural mapping was performed to 1:50 000 scale, recognizing rocks from the Neoproterozoic to Quaternary with structural features that correspond to faults and folds NW-SE and NE-SW; and secondary faults N-S and E-W. A Lower Paleozoic batholith and small stocks emplaced from the upper Paleozoic to Eocene represents igneous rocks direction aligned with Andean, these magmatic events have been interpreted by the petrochemistry and petrographic description. In the regional geochemical prospecting, it was statistically analyzed by populations, determining regional background values and thresholds for 20 elements in sediments and 14 elements in rocks. The Pearson correlation coefficient was determined in sediments, anomaly maps by basins and anomaly maps in rocks were developed. Following the methodology of INGEMMET, the Metallic Mineral Potential Map of the study area was developed, which validates and complements with anomalies maps of the geochemical prospecting. Finally the evaluation of geologic – miner Potential suggests from the geochemical prospecting and the potential map three areas of prospective interest, two at the north between Huayo and Chillia, the other in the south in Challas, where Eocene´s stocks are proposed as possible metallotects.
