The main objective in the present research work is to estimate wind generation cost through the analysis of wind regimen in an existing prototype, considering effects from the shape and scale factors of a Weibull distribution. The applied methodology considers initially the review of wind energy principles, including wind regimen characteristics, as well as the bidding process for Renewable Energy Resources (RER) implemented in Peru. Later, a characterization of wind regimen is carried out using data registered on site, for a high of 10 m. and 42 m. respectively, establishing parameters “k” and “c” from the Weibull distribution. On the basis of such characterization, the estimation of electricity production was carried out and then it was compared against data from electricity actually generated. Considering such comparison, wind regimen data was extrapolated at a high of 80 m. to continue with further analysis. In addition to that, a wind power system was simulated using the RETScreen software through the sequence: 1) project information, 2) energy model, 3) cost analysis, and 4) financial analysis. Last but not least, results coming from the simulation based on RETScreen software, for both a 450-kW turbine and a 2-MW turbine, are presented.
