One of the areas of bioinorganic chemistry which has had a great development in the last years is the use of coordination compounds for medicinal purposes. Thus, there is evidence that ligands derived from thiosemicarbazones, R-CH=N-NH-C(=S)-NRiR2, and their respective metal complexes, act as anti-tumor agents. This paper reports about the synthesis and characterization of ligands thiosemicarbazone (HL), Ph- CH=N-NH-C(=S)-NR'R2 (R1 = R2 = H, R1 = H, R2 = Ph) and the respective platinum(II) and palladium(II) complexes. The molecular structure of the platinum (II) complex, Pt4(L )4, reveals a tetranuclear platinum(II) complex, formed by four terdentate (C, N, S) deprotonated ligands and four platinum metals with geometry square planar distorted.
