The general objective of this research work was to determine the significant influence of cognitive strategies based on reading comprehension in the development of critical thinking of students of the II cycle, tax legislation teaching unit of the IESTP “Manuel Gonzales Prada, year 2021. I used a pre- experimental research design and the sample universe was made up of a total of 40 students from the educational institution to whom the survey was applied in person as a research technique and as an instrument an objective pre-test and post- test of 20 questions on tax issues. According to the results of the Wilcoxon test, it is evident that there are differences in critical thinking before and after the implementation of cognitive strategies based on reading comprehension; it can be deduced that these significantly influenced the students' critical thinking. The institution's teachers will abandon traditional preparation to take a significant step in the application of the didactic guide; using significant techniques, strategies, methods. In this way motivating students to evolve their creativity, making them active and critical; being an ideal pedagogical resource to improve the teaching- learning process.
