Objective: To determine the percentage of antibiotic dispensing without prescription in pharmacies and drugstores in the district of San Martin de Porres -2020. The research was descriptive, comparative and cross-sectional. The sample was constituted by 70 pharmaceutical establishments, where 85.71% were apothecaries and 14.29% were pharmacies. Method: A data collection sheet was used as an instrument, which was validated by an expert's judgment. The technique of simulated client was carried out, making use of a fictitious clinical case in order to guarantee an adequate collection of information, which was processed using SPSS v.25 software. Results: Among the antibiotics dispensed, azithromycin was identified with the highest percentage with 71.43%, and ceftriaxone with 1.43%; likewise, it was found that 87.1% of the drugstores and 10.9% of pharmacies dispensed antibiotics without medical prescription. Among the factors associated to the personnel who sell the medicines we have: age fluctuating from 20 to 30 years old with 47.14%, female gender 64.29% and 75.71% were technicians in pharmacy who sold the medicines and 20% were pharmaceutical chemists who sold the medicines in pharmacies and drugstores: It was determined that 91% of antibiotics for the treatment of COVID-19 were dispensed without a prescription in the pharmacies of the San Martin de Porres district. Therefore, the knowledge and professional competence of the staff working in the pharmacies and drugstores are vital to ensure adequate supply of antibiotics to the population.
