The purpose of the study was to quantify the levels of lead, cadmium and arsenic in the Piper nigrum (pepper) powdered spice sold at the Santa Luzmila-Comas Market in the period January 2022. The design used was descriptive, prospective and cross-sectional. The sample was collected in the Santa Luzmila-Comas market from a total of 05 stalls; it was then transferred to the LABICER laboratory of the Faculty of Science of the National University of Engineering, to proceed with the analysis of heavy metals. The levels of lead identified in pepper powder do not exceed the values defined by the WHO (5.0 ppm); also the levels of cadmium found in pepper powder do not exceed the values defined by the WHO (0.20 ppm) and the levels of arsenic identified in pepper powder exceed the values established by the WHO (1.00 ppm). The results show the exposure of the pepper spice to heavy metals and therefore its existence in food.
