Self-medication is defined as the use of drugs by choice or advice of third parties who have no knowledge about medications and diseases. it is an ancient practice that constitutes a public health problem at the national and global levels; since it causes serious damage to the individual, family and community health. The aim of this research is to determine the causes related to self-medication in students of pharmaceutical and biochemical sciences private university of huancayo ""franklin roosevelt""; also, the descriptive method, which basic research is applied. As a result of our research it has been obtained that 62% of students if self-medicate or take medications by choice or on the recommendation of third and 38% of students do not self-medicate; of the above, 75% are female and 25% are male; also, the socio - economic level is a determining factor in the issue of self-medication; also diseases which are self-medicate: common cold, headaches, respiratory disorders, asthma, gastrointestinal disorders, body aches, allergic problems, arthritis, gastritis, ulcers and stress; the media that influenced self-medication are: television, radio, virtual media, print ads and other media; and drugs that mostly were taken without medical prescription or recommendation from third parties include antibiotics, analgesics, antacids, energy, antitussive, anti-inflammatory, anti-diarrheal, vitamins, anti-anxiety drugs and corticosteroids.
