The general objective of this research was to identify the characteristics of the use of medicinal plants used as an alternative treatment for dysmenorrhea. The research is non-experimental, cross-sectional, descriptive, observational. The representative samples were 98 fertile women. It was evidenced that 60.2% of people suffer from dysmenorrhea of mild classification in 44.9% and moderate in 42.9%. The prevalence of dysmenorrhea was 60.2% classification mainly mild or moderate dysmenorrhea. The prevalence of use of medicinal plants for the treatment of dysmenorrhea was 65.3%, being oregano and chamomile the most used plants, mainly leaves were used by infusion for a few days or at the beginning of the period.
