Objective: The aim of this research was to understand the meanings of transcultural care provided by the nursing serumists at Ciencias y Humanidades University. Materials and methods: Qualitative approach research with a phenomenological design. The technique used for this study was the semi-structured interview and the instrument was the interview guide, which consisted of 12 items grouped into five a priori subcategories. 10 nursing serumists were interviewed. Results: The content analysis of the participants allowed the emergence of six main subcategories: nursing care with cultural relevance, learning of cultural competence, adaptation to the cultural context, barriers for the development of transcultural nursing, facilitators for the development of cross-cultural nursing and identified problems during the Serums. Conclusions: The nursing serumists interviewed at Ciencias y Humanidades University show knowledge about nursing care with cultural relevance. The serum specialists evidenced a good self-perception of training received by the university. However, the experiences developed in the community were part of the process of learning their cultural skills. In addition, the serumists had to develop a cultural adaptation of their learning in nursing care with the conceptions, practices and beliefs of the people they attended during their SERUMS. Finally, the study shows elements that are constituted like barriers and facilitators for the development of transcultural nursing.
