The objective of this study was to identify the knowledge and preventive practices of dengue in the population of the capital of the district of Ayna, La Mar - Ayacucho. To this end, a crosssectional descriptive observational study was designed based on household surveys, which systematized demographic information, vector identification, transmission, symptomatology, preventive and disease control measures carried out by the study population. 398 valid surveys were obtained from people between 18 and 65 years of age, between August and September 2022. The survey was applied in person using the printed questionnaire. 94% of the population had received information about the disease and health personnel were the most identified source. 42.7% of the population does not have permanent access to water service. 81.4% recognized Aedes aegypti as the mosquito responsible for transmitting dengue, of which 87.9% knew the mode of transmission and 84.9% identified the breeding sites used by the vector. Fever and headache were the most recognized symptoms. 94.7% use to store water in their homes and 31.7% always wash their containers where they store water. It was concluded that the inhabitants are adequately informed, but the lack of drinking water, the climate, customs and other predisposing factors, such as socio-cultural ones, prevent the implementation of preventive and control measures on the disease.
