Objective: To describe the knowledge, attitudes and practices regarding color measurement in metal-free anterior prostheses in dentists in Lima, Peru, in 2020. Materials and methods: An observational, descriptive and cross-sectional study was carried out in which 253 dentists from Metropolitan Lima participated. A validated 15-question questionnaire was used to evaluate knowledge, attitudes and practices on color measurement. In addition, the variables of time in practice and specialist status were evaluated. The data were analyzed through absolute and relative frequencies. Comparison was made through Pearson's chi-square test. Results: 40.71 % of the respondents considered individual observation to be the essential element for color selection (80.6 % of this group was dentists with a specialty). 96 % of dentists affirm that the age, sex and/or gender of the patient play an important role in color selection (the highest percentage was found in those who presented the title of specialist, p < 0.05). 48.62 % prefer to combine both visual and instrumental methods for color selection (being significantly different for those with longer practice time). Conclusions: The knowledge, attitudes and practices on color measurement are different in a group of Peruvian dentists when performing metal-free prosthetic restorations. Most of them consider the environment as the variable that affects color perception to a greater extent. Likewise, there is an adequate attitude when affirming that age, sex and/or gender of the patient play an important role in color selection.
