The study titled “Comparison of the Efficacy between Chlorhexidine Gluconate and Povidone Iodine in Preventing Surgical Site Infections in Patients Undergoing Surgical Procedures“ aimed to analyze the comparative efficacy of chlorhexidine gluconate and povidone-iodine in preventing surgical site infections. Using the secondary Evidence-Based Nursing (EBN) method, the research question was formulated: What is the comparative efficacy of chlorhexidine gluconate versus povidone-iodine in preventing surgical site infections in surgical patients? To address this question, exhaustive searches were conducted in databases such as PubMed, Scielo, and BvS PubMed. The search strategies included studies from the last five years, clinical trials, bibliographic reviews, full-text documents, and systematic reviews. The identified articles were critically evaluated using the Gálvez Toro checklist to assess their validity, usefulness, and apparent applicability. Ten relevant studies were identified, but only one met the criteria established in the Gálvez Toro checklist. Therefore, chlorhexidine is recommended as the preferred antiseptic for preoperative skin preparation to prevent surgical site infections, always considering the recommendations for application and compliance. This guideline is directed at healthcare professionals to improve the quality of surgical care, reduce the incidence of infections, and ensure patient safety.
