Essential care for newborns is essential; because they reduce the incidence of complications, help proper development and prevent perinatal death; Parents are the main caregivers who carry out a series of interventions to provide said care. Consequently, the objective of this work was to determine the level of knowledge about essential care of the full-term newborn that the mothers have, cared for in the nursing offices of the health establishments of the Lambayeque Micronetwork. It was a quantitative, descriptive, cross-sectional study. The sample was made up of 82 mothers who met the following inclusion criteria: of legal age, who are registered in the Microred nominal registry, who have one or more children; They were chosen through convenience sampling. For data collection, a validated questionnaire was used with Aiken's V coefficient (0.951) and KR20 reliability (0.80). The results show that 67.07% of mothers had a regular global level of knowledge; Regular knowledge was shown in 78.05% in breastfeeding, 63.41% in health care, 48.75% in comfort and 46.56% in safety and protection. Furthermore, 51.22% had good knowledge in affectivity and 50% had bad knowledge in the rest dimension. It is concluded that there are information gaps that require urgent interventions. Health personnel should conduct education and information in the prenatal and postnatal stages to improve the mother's understanding of the importance of neonatal care at home.
