Preterm birth is defined as the spontaneous birth that occurs after the twentieth and before the thirty-sixth week of gestational age. In this context, this study aimed to identify the maternal factors that influence preterm delivery in pregnant women attending the Regional Hospital Manuel Núñez Butrón Puno, in 2013. The study corresponds to investigations of explanatory type. For purposes of hypothesis testing, it is framed between studies with non - experimental designs, and cross - sectional and causal - comparative analytical design is specifically applied. For the collection of data, a registration form designed for the study purposes was used as instrument. As a general conclusion, it was found that maternal factors influence preterm delivery are maternal weight gain, hypertensive pregnancy disease, premature rupture of membranes and placental abruption. Together, account for 28% of the variation in preterm labor; and the maternal weight gain is a protective factor, while the other three are risk factors.
