According to Peru’s National Curriculum, the exit profile of basic education considers training in environmentally responsible citizenship through the implementation of the environmental approach whose guidelines are issued in the National Environmental Education Policy. This dissertation aims to analyse the contributing and limiting factors to the implementation of the National Environmental Education Policy at 558 “Casa Montessori” public school in the south of Lima in the 2019-2022 period. In this research we have analysed the contributing and limiting social, economic, political, institutional and pedagogical factors to the implementation of the policy, as well as the strategies and activities, the participants’ opinions and the achievements of the school. The results show that organizational structure, shared leadership and interest convergence of the participants are contributing factors to the implementation of the policy; whereas poor environmental awareness of new participants joining the school and the community, lack of available guidelines about how to assemble the environmental approach and the gender perspective, and the lack of systematization of their experience are limiting factors. Quechua language appreciation from an intercultural approach is an outstanding strategy. The issue of access to resources does not appear to be a limiting factor but is an aspect of improvement. We propose that a communal communication strategy that contributes to the strength of the environmental culture in the town is implemented.
