Ancianidad compuesta / Identidad descompuesta: Transiciones y transgresiones del cuerpo, la memoria y la identidad

Abstract

La presente investigación está desarrollada en base al proyecto artístico Al borde de las cosas, una instalación presentada en el interior de la casa de mi abuelo materno en Arequipa. En este estudio abordo la vejez contemporánea en su faceta más degenerativa, aquella confrontada con el deterioro de las funciones vitales con las que tradicionalmente se cree que se construye identidad. El decaimiento en la ancianidad, como tema de investigación, plantea la interrogante por la posible pérdida o interrupción identitaria, cuestión que es desarrollada a partir de la siguiente pregunta: ¿Cómo entender y representar desde las artes la condición degenerativa propia de la senectud y qué implica esta condición frente a determinados modelos y construcciones sociales como son el cuerpo, la mente y la identidad? El objetivo final de este trabajo es presentar una crítica al concepto identidad, desde la vejez, como categoría que valida la existencia, generando cuestionamientos importantes sobre el individuo y su relación con los procesos de declive. Así como aportando reflexiones sobre la percepción contemporánea de la vejez y cómo, por medio de la estética y la ficción, se puede entender a esta desde un potencial disidente y cuestionador frente a categorías que suelen ser pensadas como modelos normativos, como son: la salud, el deterioro, la memoria, el cuerpo, y también la identidad.

The present research is based on the artistic project On the edge of things, an art installation presented inside the house of my maternal grandfather in Arequipa, Peru. In this thesis I address contemporary old age in its most degenerative state, confronted with the deterioration of the vital functions which are traditionally believed that identity is built on. The general decline in old age, as a research topic, raises the question of the possible loss or interruption of identity, an issue that is developed from the following question: How to understand and represent through the arts the degenerative condition of old age and what does this condition imply in the face of certain models and social constructions such as the body, the mind and identity? The final objective of this work is to present a critique of the concept of identity, through old age, as a category that validates existence, presenting important questions about the individual and their relationship with the processes of decline. As well as providing reflections on the contemporary perception of old age and how, through aesthetics and fiction, it can be understood from a critical and dissident potential against categories that are usually thought of as normative models, such as: health , deterioration, memory, the body, and also identity.
