This State of the Art is the result of a documentary review on the purposes of digital competence and its implementation in Latin American educational curricula, from various authors who define the purpose of digital competence considering the new challenges of this century and the rapid advancement of technologies. Likewise, an analysis was made of how five countries in the Latin American region, including Peru, Colombia, Mexico, Chile and Argentina, have integrated this competence in their curricula. To this end, we first identified the purpose of their educational curricula for the development of these competencies and the areas or groups of skills that they have prioritized for their students. Among the main results, it was found that there is a greater tendency to value digital competencies because they allow a correct and safe management of information, as well as the formation of a digital citizenship, which coincides with what is stated in the curricula. Likewise, it was identified that each country proposes a series of areas to be developed that, although they differ in name, their purposes are very similar; however, some curricula present a greater variety of areas, as well as differ in their prioritization.
