Abstract: Esta investigación cualitativa, basada en enfoques narrativos e interpretativos y
This qualitative study, based on a narrative and interpretive approach grounded on social constructivism, has as a general goal to explore the experiences of lowerincome students attending a private international school in Lima, Peru on scholarships. The specific goals are to identify the factors that positively and negatively influenced their educational experiences. The interest in this subject arises from the personal experience of the author as the coordinator of a scholarship program in an international private school in Lima. Analyzing the answers of four scholarship students to semistructured interviews, three factors were identified to have influenced their educational experiences in positive ways: solid relations with other students, teachers, and their parents. Two factors negatively influenced their educational experiences: their initial limitations with the English language, which is the language of instruction in the school studied, and feelings of discomfort and inferiority towards other students, caused mainly by ideas and prejudices based on the socioeconomic differences between both groups. Future research that could contribute to have a better understanding of the impact of their educational experiences as scholarship students in a private international school could compare their academic achievement to non-scholarship students as well as analyze their life trajectories after graduation, with a special emphasis on their personal and professional aspects.
