Owens Illinois was born in 1929 in Ohio, United States. The company is dedicated to the manufacture of glass containers, being a leading company at a national level. Currently the company has 81 plants in 21 countries worldwide with about 24,000 people employed. In our country, the O-I company began operations in 1993 with a plant in the constitutional province of Callao and in 2007 it opened its second plant in the district of Lurín. The business model is based on costs, thanks to a large volume of production at low cost. About 250 thousand tons of glass are processed in both plants. The main activities are incoming logistics, glass container production and outcoming logistics. In the outcoming logistics there is the process of returning of the packaging material, after analyzing the process it has been identified that this process is not being efficient due to the fact that part of the material stays with the client and does not return to the plant, Furthermore, only 50% of the returned material is ready to be reused. To improve the returning of the packaging material, an analysis of the core cause of the problem was carried out, managing to identify alternative solutions. One alternative is based on the improvement of the materials recovery process and the other is based on a standardization of processes integrating all activities starting from the material leaving the customer and returning to the production line to be reused. Once the proposal is implemented with an investment of $ 5,000, it is expected that the percentage of material that returns to the plant to be reused will increase by 20%. This would mean a saving of 750 thousand dollars that would not be used to buy new material.
