The business world is experiencing rapid and accelerated changes generated by the development of technological innovations and increasing global competition. This causes organizations to find themselves immersed in dynamic environments characterized by high levels of unpredictability and instability. In this context, the literature shows that agility is a paramount capability to achieve sustainable competitive advantages. However, this capacity alone is insufficient and must be complemented. This research proposes that resilience complements agility. In this sense, it develops an offensive-defensive strategy model, with agility as a capability that allows materializing strategic opportunities and with resilience as a capability that allows to withstand the negative forces of the environment. Building on dynamic capabilities theory, business model innovation emerged as a critical mechanism for improving strategic performance. Therefore, the present study analyzes the joint impact of strategic agility and organizational resilience on strategic performance, the mediation effect of business model innovation, and the moderation effect of environmental dynamism. The research model was statistically assessed using partial-least-squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) by analyzing survey data from 241 Peruvian firms in the Lima Metropolitana region. The results determined that organizational resilience complemented strategic agility. Moreover, they validated most of the research hypotheses. However, the moderating effect of environment was not validated.
