Over the years, it has been frequently observed that the acquisition of the notions of reading and writing have been directly related to work in classrooms, which has caused the limitation of its development to the purely academic aspect, leaving aside, other places and environments in which their learning could be enriched. In this sense, the present research aims to analyze the studies that explain the development of the emergent literacy in children of early childhood education. To do this, the main objective is to know what literacy is and how the conception of this notion in early childhood has been developed over the last 20 years. The research is carried out in the form of a State of the Art and, in order to collect information and process its corresponding analysis, a documentary study has been chosen as methodology, through which the search, review and reflection of various theoretical texts from databases, repositories, e-books, physical books, etc. Thus, it has been found that the development of emergent literacy encompasses a series of processes in which children are introduced directly or indirectly to the literate world, in such a way that the foundations are laid for the subsequent acquisition of the notion of conventional reading and writing. In this way, it is necessary to delve into the importance of enriching the environments around the infants, so that they successfully get involved and discover everything that the act of reading and writing implies.
