Resumen: Anglo American Quellaveco S.A. está presente en el Perú desde el 1993, entra en
operaciones desde 2022, pero la matriz inglesa Anglo American PLC lleva más de un siglo de
operaciones a nivel mundial. Anglo American es una mina de tajo abierto cuyos productos
son cobre y molibdeno. Busca la excelencia en las operaciones, así como ser considerada la
mina 100% digital.
Anglo American PLC como grupo ha tenido importantes hitos, como la implementación del
primer camión autónomo con hidrógeno verde en sus operaciones en Sudáfrica. Además de
implementar proyecto hacia este nuevo recurso energético en sus operaciones en Chile con
hidrógeno verde. La compañía tiene como objetivo ser una empresa sostenible con visión de
convertirse en carbono neutral para el año 2040.
Para identificar el problema principal se usó la matriz de afinidad, así como la matriz
complejidad vs beneficio. Posteriormente para la solución se usó la metodología de
inspección in situ y entrevistas para luego procesarlas mediante métodos de diagrama de
Ishikawa. Se identificaron principales causas como: la maquinaria está adecuada al uso de
Diesel, 70% del consumo de Diesel son de camiones mineros, la planta minera actual no
considera producción de energías renovables, la metodología empleada es solo para Diesel.
Para solucionar las causas raíces, se realizaron estudios de proyectos afines, análisis
normativo, empresas especializadas en el rubro de generación de hidrógeno, propuesta de
grupo de alto rendimiento para el proyecto. Finalmente se concluye que la implementación de
la planta de producción de hidrógeno verde es factible de realizar en 42 meses, consumirá
solo el 0.28% del consumo total de agua de las operaciones y reemplazará al 70% de Diesel
de las operaciones, logrando de este modo un hito importante en camino a ser carbono neutral
al año 2040.
