The purpose of this research is to dive into the situation of the developing gender revolutions of our local artistic field through a review of our cultural references. Among these, Saint Rose of Lima's symbol prevails on the construction of local gender roles, therefore, I begin analyzing two of the most controversial art projects of the peruvian contemporary scene which make use of the saint's image: “A wandering body” (2013-14) of Sergio Zevallos and Saint Rose of Lima (1999) of Natalia Iguiñiz. Then, I analyse the censorship each of these projects faced and their contexts in relation to the representation of gender speech in local artworks. As well as using the cancellation of the exposition “Migration of the saints” (2008) of Cristina Planas as a reference on the subject of censorship, in order to assess the relevance of Saint Rose's image in the construction of local gender identities and of new approaches of visual representation from our own icons. The outcome of this paper gives new insight at local symbols as dominant influences in the construction of Latin American gender identities and the importance of their insertion in artistic projects on gender speech. At the same time, it evidences the precarious situation of the art field in which these discourses take place due to the predominance of traditional mindset over the liberations of art and feminisms.
