For several years we have been part of a technological revolution, a movement that allowed the development of new social media and digital platforms that are providing new job opportunities for journalists. However, despite the benefits that this transformation provides to communication professionals, new skills and competencies are also required that generate an impact on those who dedicate themselves to this profession and even on those who have plans to do so in the short, medium or long term. So, taking into account the context of this movement, in this professional proficiency work I will present data analysis as one of the new functions within the world of journalism. To achieve this goal I will share my experience performing these functions, as well as I will interview professionals from the world of communications and digital marketing so, with the results, I will be able to make an evaluation that allows me to know if journalists can perform the work of a data analyst. With the information shared in this report, it will be shown that the technological revolution has led to new job demands for journalists, who can work as data analysts since both tasks have similar functions. Finally, given the digital movement that we have been experiencing for several years, we reflect on the training that journalism students should receive during their time at university so that they can adapt to the new demands that will be presented in the labor field.
