The collection and accumulation of plastic waste in the only sanitary landfill in Arequipa has generated multiple problems for the population of the Yura district, which is experiencing a serious environmental problem, who suffer for unpleasant odors, pests and leaks of leached liquids. To solve this situation, we propose the installation of GREENPLAST, a recycled plastic material processing plant in the district of Cerro Colorado in the province of Arequipa. GREENPLAST will receive recycled material provided by the population of the Yura district of the city of Arequipa, as well as from retail collectors. The plant will produce plastic products with recycled material that will be sold both in online stores and in an establishment located in the same district. The initiative will include incentives for the population of Yura for good segregation, such as discounts and bonus points, and a culture of environmental care will be promoted. The project is aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 12.5 and 12.8, Responsible Production and Consumption by 2030. Likewise, in a period of five years it is expected to achieve a net present value (NPV) of S/ 1’677,760.40 along with an internal rate of return (IRR) of 60.97% and it is important to mention that it is expected to generate a Social NPV of S/ 3’374,316.56. Due to the above, the GREENPLAST project will benefit society, investors and the environment.
