This thesis proposes an innovation project that seeks to incorporate online and on site education within the curricular design of secondary schools. Its purpose is to help student athletes successfully navigate their school work while at the same time maintaining a rigorous practice schedule and achieving their athletic goals. This innovation project aims to provide athletic students with the resources necessary to help them become independent learners and to balance practice schedules with school responsibilities. Furthermore, it will attempt to make teachers and staff aware of the unique difficulties that student athletes face. This innovation project will give student athletes the opportunity to continue a diligent training schedule while at the same time receiving a holistic education that involves acquiring and honing important soft skills such as tolerance to frustration, self-discipline, and a healthy lifestyle that incorporates both physical and mental health. These are skills that forge virtues that make a person a successful and viable member of a democratic society. Furthermore, the broad support of competitive sports fosters the growth of recreational sports within the community. On the other hand, student athletes will also learn skills such as self-directed study, organization and autonomy. These skills will be increasingly useful in a world that is constantly changing and students will be able to move with confidence in an increasingly globalized and technological environment. It has been demonstrated in the Pan American Games (and the Parapan American Games) in Lima 2019 that Peru is making significant progress in promoting various sports and sponsoring its athletes. I consider that this project will further increase the support for these students and will help many young adults fulfill their dreams of becoming professional athletes.
