This paper explores the causal empirical relation between the capital market subcomponents and economic growth for Peru during 2003M01 to 2019M12 period. Economic theory on the subject predicts that the capital market serves as a channel through which the performance and efficiency of resources are improved, in such a way that it boosts economic growth. The empirical literature shows that there is no consensus on the relationship between the sectors: for different economies there is a positive, negative or null relationship. The data methodology seeks to capture the different edges that describe the Peruvian stock market. In this sense, the principal components method is used to generate an empirical index that describes the development of this market. The econometric methodology consists of studying the static spillovers in the short and long term, through the use of an autoregressive model of distributed lags (ARDL), and the dynamic spillovers through a Markov switching regression model. The preliminary results of the study show some evidence of a positive and two-way relationship between the capital market subcomponents and economic growth.
