Strategic Enrollment Management or SEM is a comprehensive approach that allows the behavior of a university's entire student body to be analyzed focussing on key aspects: recruitment, admission, enrollment, retention, academic success and graduation. Its application implies the creation of organizational structures that integrate academic and service providers as well as the areas of economy and finance. Supported by studies and reports that systematize university information, plans are devised to solve the problems of enrollment identified by the university in order to fulfill its mission and meet student’s expectations. The SEM approach emerges in the United States in a certain social and theoretical context that can be characterized in eight features, some from the university and others from the context of the country. In the light of an analysis of the implementation of the SEM approach, the issues facing the Peruvian university meets the conditions to develop a SEM model to improve the different dimensions it addresses.
